Parts for the G20 3 Series
The G20 is the seventh-generation 3 Series, built from October 2018. It is the first 3 Series sedan generation not built in South Africa (BMW says every earlier generation was built at Rosslyn): cars.co.za notes that SA-market cars come from BMW's plants in Munich and San Luis Potosí in Mexico, because Rosslyn switched to the X3 in 2018.
The SA line-up, in order
Cars.co.za's launch report, from March 2019, says the G20 arrived with two derivatives, the 320d and the 330i, and that the 320i, M340i xDrive and 330d followed from September 2019. IOL reported in January 2020 that a 318i was coming in the second quarter of that year.
Two things trip people up when ordering engine parts. First, a "30i" no longer means six cylinders: the 330i uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo. Second, the G20 318i shares that 2.0-litre four-cylinder, detuned to 115 kW, unlike the previous F30 318i, which had a 1.5-litre three-cylinder. IOL also notes that every G20 318i has an eight-speed automatic.
What people replace on a newer 3 Series
Typical accident-repair parts on a G20 are bumpers with parking sensors, LED headlights, grilles, bonnets, fenders and radiators. Equipment levels change which headlight and bumper is fitted, so photos and the VIN help. If yours is an M Sport car, say so.
