How we source F40 parts

Stripped from accident-damaged BMW cars, then tested

  • Over 15 years stripping accident-damaged vehicles for used parts.
  • Removed carefully and tested before a part is sold, so you're not paying for something that doesn't work.
  • Matched to your car — send the year, engine and VIN if you have it, and we'll check it's the right part.

Parts for the F40 1 Series

The F40 is the third-generation 1 Series, built from July 2019 to 2024, and it is a different kind of car from the hatchbacks before it. BMW moved the 1 Series onto a front-wheel-drive platform, so very little underneath carries over from the rear-wheel-drive F20 1 Series. The drivetrain is a completely different design.

The South African line-up

CAR magazine reported that BMW South Africa launched the F40 here in October 2019 with just two derivatives:

  • 118i: a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 103 kW and 220 N.m, driving the front wheels.
  • M135i xDrive: the range-topper, with all-wheel drive, a Torsen limited-slip differential, M Sport steering and uprated brakes.

The diesel 116d, 118d and 120d xDrive sold in Europe were not offered here at launch, so most F40s in Pretoria are one of those two petrol cars. If yours is something else, it may be a later addition or a private import, and we will need the VIN to match parts.

What people need for a newer car

On a car this young, parts requests usually follow an accident: bumpers, headlights, bonnets, grilles, doors and radiators. For a damaged radiator or other cooling parts, our BMW cooling systems guide is a useful read. Tell us whether your bumper has parking sensors and send a photo of the headlight, so we match the right unit.

What to send

The year, 118i or M135i xDrive, the part and the VIN from your registration certificate. A photo of the damaged part also helps us match trim and colour. For engine and injection questions on any modern BMW, see our BMW fuel injection guide.
