Parts for the first BMW X3

The E83 was the first BMW X3, built from August 2003 to August 2010. It was assembled for BMW by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. BMW South Africa's press kit for the car said it would launch here in the second quarter of 2004.

Engines and drive

Cars.co.za lists the E83 with three petrol engines (2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 litres) and two turbodiesels (2.0 and 3.0 litres), and notes that every derivative had BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive. BMW's press kit for the car presented xDrive as a new system, varying drive between the front and rear axles.

That means two things when you need drivetrain parts. First, every E83 has a transfer case and a front differential, so tell us if it is one of those you are after. Second, the engine decides many engine-bay parts, so the badge on the tailgate and the year matter. The VIN from your registration certificate is the surest match.

Cooling parts

If you are replacing a radiator, water pump or thermostat, our guide to BMW water pump, thermostat and radiator repairs covers those parts.

Which X3 is mine?

The E83 was replaced by the F25 in 2010, so an X3 first registered in 2011 or later is almost always the newer car. If you are not sure, send a photo of the car and the year from the registration certificate.

X3 or X1?

The X3 sits above the smaller X1 in BMW's range. If your car is actually an X1, see our BMW X1 parts guide instead.

What to send

Year, engine (petrol or diesel, and size), the part and a photo if it is a body or trim part. We will check the match and come back with a price.
