Parts for the second-generation X3
The F25 X3 was built from September 2010 to August 2017 at BMW's Spartanburg plant in the United States. Cars.co.za's SA buyer's guide says it arrived here in December 2010 and that around 11 000 were sold in South Africa, with more than 2 000 in 2013 alone. The guide says the xDrive20d diesel was by far the most popular version.
Which F25 do you have?
The SA range started with two models, the xDrive20d and the xDrive35i (a turbocharged straight-six), both with an eight-speed automatic. The xDrive30d and the entry xDrive20i followed, and an xDrive28i was added in 2012. Later the xDrive20d's output rose from 135 kW to 140 kW. Every F25 badge sold here was an xDrive model, so all have all-wheel drive.
Known problems
The same guide flags the N20 petrol engine in the xDrive20i and xDrive28i: problems have been reported with its timing-chain mechanism and turbocharger, and in the worst cases the result is an engine replacement. It suggests listening for a whine below 3 000 rpm or a very rattly start-up. It also says the F25's shock absorbers tend to last about 200 000 km before they need replacing.

It depends on the badge. According to cars.co.za's South African buyer's guide, the F25 X3 was sold here as the xDrive20d (2.0 turbodiesel, 135 kW, later 140 kW), xDrive30d (3.0 turbodiesel, 190 kW), xDrive20i and xDrive28i (both 2.0 turbo petrol, the 28i with 180 kW) and xDrive35i (a turbocharged 3.0 straight-six with 225 kW).
