Seventy years of SL
The SL has been in production, with gaps, since 1954. For parts purposes the cars split cleanly by model code, and none of the generations share body panels:
- R107 (1971–1989).
- R129 (1989–2001).
- R230 (2001–2011).
- R231 (2011–2020).
- R232 (from 2022): the current SL.
Roof and electrical parts
If you are chasing a roof part, tell us exactly which part has failed and send a photo of the old one if you can. The same goes for anything with a wiring plug: the VIN tells us which version of the part your car was built with.
What to send for a quote
Send the year, the model on the boot (SL 350, SL 500, SL 55 AMG and so on), the colour and the VIN. For engine or gearbox parts, add the engine number. If we cannot find a part for an older R107 or R129, we will tell you straight rather than send the wrong thing.
Production of the R129 and R230 overlapped around 2000 and 2001, so for a car built then, the VIN is the quickest way to confirm the generation. A photo of the old part, with any label, helps us match it by number.
