Introduction
The BMW E34 is a mid-size executive car manufactured by BMW from 1988 to 1995. It replaced the BMW E28 and was succeeded by the BMW E39 in 1996. It was the first 5 Series to be available with the wagon body style. The E34 was among the most reliable luxury cars on the market, earning the best-in-class ratings from Intellichoice in 1991, and still considered one of the most reliable BMWs ever made. Engine and Gearbox
The E34 was launched with four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines, as well as a six-cylinder diesel engine. In 1992, the range was expanded to include the first V8 engine in a 5 Series. The E34 was the first 5 Series to be available with a automatic transmission, and the first to have the option of a six-speed manual transmission.
Design & Accessories
The E34 featured a modern design, with a slightly more rounded body than the previous E28. It featured redesigned headlights, a slightly larger grille, and a new dashboard with a center console angled towards the driver. The E34 was succeeded by the BMW E39 in 1996. The E39 featured a more modern design, more powerful engines, and a longer wheelbase. It was the first 5 Series to be available with an all-wheel drive system, and the first to be available with a six-speed automatic transmission.
